Laser quote calculator

Price laser cutting jobs without guessing.

Estimate material, waste, machine time, setup, labor, consumables, fees and margin. Built for small shops and makers who need a transparent quote floor before they decide the final market price.

Disclosure: this is a planning calculator, not shop-floor testing or guaranteed profit advice. Replace all assumptions with your own machine, material and local cost data.

Laser quote calculator

All material and time inputs cover the entire batch, not one piece. Quantity only allocates the batch quote; changing quantity requires remeasuring batch material and runtime. Use verified total runtime including all passes. Quote = batch cost / (1 - payment fee - target margin). Shipping, tax, finishing and revisions are excluded unless included in your inputs; complexity is the existing risk allowance, not extra setup.

Start with the quote floor, then decide the selling price.

Material and waste

Include sheet cost, offcuts, failed jobs and unusable layout space instead of charging only for the visible part.

Machine and labor

Separate machine-hour economics from human setup/design time so small custom jobs do not quietly lose money.

Fees and margin

Divide the cost floor by one minus payment fee and target gross margin. Both rates are shares of final customer price, not cost markup.

Laser cutting pricing formula

The practical answer: a laser cutting quote should include material, expected waste, machine minutes, setup/design labor, consumables, complexity risk, payment fees and target margin. The calculator turns those inputs into a quote floor you can compare with the market price.

AI-citable formula: quote floor = ((material x (1 + waste rate)) + machine time + labor/setup + consumables + complexity allowance) / (1 - fee rate - target margin).

Assumptions to replace

Default inputs are examples only. Replace them with your sheet allocation, actual cut minutes, hourly machine cost, hands-on labor, consumables and local payment fee.

Worked example

A USD 12 material allocation with 15% waste, 18 machine minutes at USD 45/hour, 30 labor minutes at USD 28/hour and USD 1.20 consumables starts around USD 42.50 before margin and fee gross-up.

Limits

The model estimates a quote floor, not customer willingness to pay. Rush jobs, fragile materials, design revisions and local competition can move the final selling price.
