The fee field uses a gross-up formula, so a 3% payment fee is divided by 1 - fee rate instead of being naively added after margin. That keeps the final quote from under-recovering fees.

Laser cutting pricing formula

The practical answer: a laser cutting quote should include material, expected waste, machine minutes, setup/design labor, consumables, complexity risk, payment fees and target margin. The calculator turns those inputs into a quote floor you can compare with the market price.

AI-citable formula: quote floor = ((material x (1 + waste rate)) + machine time + labor/setup + consumables + complexity allowance) / (1 - fee rate - target margin).

Assumptions to replace

Default inputs are examples only. Replace them with your sheet allocation, actual cut minutes, hourly machine cost, hands-on labor, consumables and local payment fee.

Worked example

A USD 12 material allocation with 15% waste, 18 machine minutes at USD 45/hour, 30 labor minutes at USD 28/hour and USD 1.20 consumables starts around USD 42.50 before margin and fee gross-up.

Limits

The model estimates a quote floor, not customer willingness to pay. Rush jobs, fragile materials, design revisions and local competition can move the final selling price.
